Is Jesus Christ JEHOVAH? Some people revolt at the very thought of Jesus Christ being given a name which only belongs to Almighty God, but that is what the Bible teaches us. First of all, I want you to know that the word JEHOVAH is actually a word that is translated from the word YEHOVAH, or better yet YHWH, because the additional vowels (e, o, and a) were added so that the name might be easier to pronounce. So instead of YHWH you would get YeHoWaH or YeHoVaH or JeHoVaH in the modern day translation. Some like to use the word YAHWEH, but in this article I will use the word JEHOVAH, but I want you to know that the words YHWH, YAHWEH and JEHOVAH are all describing the person that we know as GOD ALMIGHTY.
When you come to the New Testament the word LORD is usually translated from the Greek word KURIOS, but I assure you that the Jesus Christ of the New Testament is the very same LORD (KURIOS), as the LORD (JEHOVAH) in the Old testament. Many people have no idea that Jesus Christ has always been, because he is eternal, and he is part of the eternal triune Godhead. The people from the Watchtower Society (Jehovah’s Witnesses) like to take pride in using ONLY the name JEHOVAH when talking about God, and they most certainly do not believe that Jesus Christ is Almighty God. They do not believe that Jesus Christ is JEHOVAH. If you take a look at the New Testament book of John, where it proclaims that the WORD was GOD, they insert an “a” before the word GOD, so they destroy the deity (Godhood) of Jesus Christ by doing that.
In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with GOD, and the WORD was GOD. The same was in the beginning with GOD. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. (John 1:1-3)
The next verse reveals that the WORD is actually speaking of the person of Jesus Christ.
“He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:10-14)
We have learned in just the first chapter of John, that the WORD, who created ALL things is none other than the person of Jesus Christ. The WORD came down from HEAVEN above and HE was made flesh, and the majority of JEWISH people rejected him when he came. That is what the scriptures teach us, and in John 1:10-14 it tells us that He (Jesus Christ) was in the world, and the world was made by him (Jesus Christ), but the world knew him not. A person truly has to twist and distort the scriptures to come against the deity of Jesus Christ, and it will surely be to the destruction of their own souls one day. They will ultimately end up dying in their sins without a Saviour, because they refuse the counsel of God against themselves! The majority of people in the world have absolutely no idea that Jesus Christ created ALL things including the very world that they walk in! I was numbered among those who did not understand the deity of Jesus Christ until I was truly born again of the Spirit in 1989. I used to do my Roman Catholic assignments in grammar school and I would have to write JMJ on the top of every assignment that I did. Those initials stand for Jesus, Mary and Joseph. It was as if Jesus Christ was merely one of the crowd, but all of that changed when I got saved, and I came to know the REAL Jesus Christ according to the scriptures. Glory to God and Hallelujah! The scriptures also tell us that Jesus Christ came unto his own (the Jewish people) but they received him not, and here we are almost 2000 years later and nothing has changed. If Jesus Christ is NOT part of the eternal triune Godhead, then we have absolutely NO gospel at all. Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who came down from HEAVEN above, partook of our humanity (was made flesh), (Hebrews 2:9,14) for the purpose of SAVING us, and REDEEMING us from our sins! Does the Old Testament back those words up? Absolutely YES!
Thus saith the LORD (JEHOVAH), thy REDEEMER, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD (JEHOVAH) that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; (Isaiah 44:24)
JEHOVAH is the creator of ALL things, and he did it by himself. If the Bible tells us that JEHOVAH created ALL things, and the Bible tells us that the WORD (Jesus Christ) created ALL things, then you know that the WORD, JEHOVAH and JESUS CHRIST are the very same person!
That word JEHOVAH is actually used thousands of times in the Old Testament part of the Bible, which was written in Hebrew, and here are some more passages from the Bible to prove my point:
And GOD spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD (JEHOVAH): And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of GOD ALMIGHTY, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. (Exodus 6:2-3)
If the LORD is JEHOVAH and GOD ALMIGHTY, then JESUS must also be JEHOVAH and GOD ALMIGHTY! Here is the LORD speaking to the Jewish apostle John!
I am ALPHA and OMEGA, the beginning and the ending, saith the LORD, which IS, and which WAS, and which IS TO COME, the ALMIGHTY. (Revelation 1:8)
Here is the LORD talking to John again!
Saying, I AM ALPHA AND OMEGA, the FIRST and the LAST: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. (Revelation 1:11)
Here is the LORD talking to John again!
And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I AM the FIRST and the LAST: I am he that LIVETH, and was DEAD; and, behold, I AM ALIVE for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. (Revelation 1:17-18)
That passage of scripture tells us that the FIRST and the LAST was dead at one point, but then he was made alive again. Who is the FIRST and the LAST? Could it be that the FIRST and the LAST is speaking of JEHOVAH himself?
Thus saith the LORD (JEHOVAH) the KING of ISRAEL, and his REDEEMER the LORD (JEHOVAH) of hosts; I am the FIRST, and I am the LAST; and beside me there is no GOD. (Isaiah 44:6)
Not only that but that passage of scripture tells us that beside JEHOVAH there is no other GOD! It is quite obvious that the scriptures teach that Jesus Christ is the KING of ISRAEL (John 1:49), the one who REDEEMED us by his blood, and he is also the FIRST and the LAST.
There can only be ONE, FIRST and LAST, so beside JESUS CHRIST (JEHOVAH) there is no other GOD! Ultimately we are talking about salvation here, so it is most important that a person realize before they die that Jesus Christ is the JEHOVAH of the Old Testament, and he came into this WORLD to SAVE your soul. There is absolutely NO other way for a person to be SAVED! Not only that but Jesus Christ has been given a name that is above ALL names!
Who, being in the form of GOD, thought it not robbery to be EQUAL with GOD: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore GOD also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is ABOVE every name: (Philippians 2:6-9)
Who did John the Baptist prepare the way for? The scriptures make it clear that he prepared the way for Jesus Christ.
John bare witness of him (Jesus), and cried, saying, This was he (Jesus) of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. (John 1:15)
John the Baptist declared that Jesus was before him, even though Jesus was born into this world six months after John was born. John knew that Jesus Christ came down from above, and that he was the eternal Son of God. When John was asked by the religious Jews who he was, he identified himself as “the voice in the wilderness” whom the prophet Isaiah spoke about:
And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias (Elijah)? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord (KURIOS), as said the prophet Esaias (Isaiah). (John 1:19-23)
Here is the verse from the book of Isaiah:
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD (JEHOVAH), make straight in the desert a highway for our God (ELOHIYM). (Isaiah 40:3)
So we can see that John the Baptist prepared the way for JEHOVAH (YHWH) ELOHIYM, which clearly shows us that Jesus Christ is JEHOVAH (YHWH) ELOHIYM!!
There is still time for YOU to be SAVED, but the hour is extremely late. Do not let your own stinking pride continue even a minute longer, because the DEVIL is at the root of that. The DEVIL wants to keep YOU from putting your FAITH in Jesus Christ so that YOU end up in an eternal HELL! Do not let the peer pressure from YOUR family and “FRIENDS” keep YOU from truly getting SAVED. If they CHOOSE to go the DEVIL’S way, then let them go that way, but don’t follow them. YOU can end up in HEAVEN through faith in Jesus Christ. Not only that but YOU will be joined to the SPIRITUAL family of true BELIEVERS, from all over the world, who belong to the true and living GOD!
Humble yourself before the GOD of all creation, and ask him to SAVE your soul. GOD will forgive YOU of ALL your sins, and fill YOU with the Holy Spirit even as you read this article.
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there SALVATION in any other: for there is NONE other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be SAVED. (Acts 4:10-12)
