“And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11-15)
There truly is a lake of fire and people really do go there too. This is found in the word of God and a person must come to the place where they choose to believe it or reject it. That is your own choice. Here is how you can avoid ending up in the lake of fire for eternity.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall NOT come into condemnation; but is PASSED from death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and NOW IS, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and THEY THAT HEAR shall live.” (John 5:24-25)
You can avoid going to the lake of fire through faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus in his own words tells us that the believer has already passed from death to life, and that is what it means to be saved. If you have been born again of the Spirit (John 3:1-8) then you will not partake of the second death. As the old saying goes born once then die twice, born twice then die once. It is absolutely necessary that a person be born again of the Spirit, and the true believer will have a witness inside themselves that they have passed from death to life.
“The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Romans 8:16)
Our names are written down in Heaven when we trust in the Lord and have been regenerated by his Spirit!
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” (Titus 3:5)
We do not pass from death to life by receiving the sacraments because it is only by grace through faith that we are saved. God has quickened us (made us alive) TOGETHER with Christ when we trusted in Christ ALONE, and we are already sitting in heavenly places by faith in him.
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:4-9)
