I can say along with the apostle Paul, that I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, because it is indeed the power of God unto salvation. Listen to what Paul said here:
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. (Romans 1:16-17)
Do not miss the truth that Paul brought forth to us here. This Gospel of Jesus Christ which we preach as Christians, is the power of Almighty God unto salvation. To who? To every one that believes. If a person does not believe this Gospel that we preach, then they are outsiders in the plan of God, and the salvation that he offers to them! Paul tells us in that passage that this Gospel was to the Jew first! All the more reason that we should make it clear to the Jewish people that they need to believe the very same Gospel that we believe! The righteousness of God can only be found in Jesus Christ. The Jew and the Gentile who refuse this Gospel invitation, have absolutely no righteousness at all. Let me say that again. The Jew and the Gentile who refuse this Gospel invitation, have absolutely no righteousness at all. Nothing with a capital “N”! Listen to what Paul tells us in this next passage here:
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)
If a man or a woman is a born again believer in Jesus Christ, then they are new creations in HIM! How was the true believer reconciled back to the true and living God? Through Jesus Christ. There is no other way for any person to get right with God, except through Jesus Christ. When a person has been truly reconciled back to God, there is a definite change inside the heart of that person. How could there not be a change if the Holy Spirit has taken up residence? That person will then, naturally share the Gospel with others, and that person will have a very strong desire to tell others that they also need to be reconciled back to God. Why? Because that same person knows beyond any shadow of a doubt, that every person without Jesus Christ will die in their sins, and end up in Hell!
For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:17-18)
It is the cross of Jesus Christ that is the very center of the Gospel. Jesus shed His blood for us, so that we might be saved. Yes, this preaching of the cross is foolishness to many unbelievers, but to those who have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, they know that it is certainly the power of God unto salvation!
