How does God speak to us in these last days? The Bible tells us that it is through His Son (Jesus Christ)!
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us BY HIS SON, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:1-3)
The passage above tells us that “in time past” God had spoken to His people through the prophets, but that was until the Lord Jesus Christ came on the scene. Jesus is greater than all the prophets of the past, and Jesus is the heir of all things. More important than that, is the truth that Jesus by Himself, purged our sins. (Romans 5:6-10) A person can have a ton of Bible knowledge stored up in their memory bank, but if they do not KNOW Jesus it means nothing. Many in these last days know a lot ABOUT the BIBLE, but they do NOT KNOW the real Jesus of the Bible!
Here is something to think about here. The people of Islam (Muslims) do not believe that God even has a Son, and yet there are many “Christians” in these last days that will tell you that the people of Islam serve the same God as they do! How can this be?
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; BECAUSE HE BELIEVETH NOT THE RECORD THAT GOD GAVE OF HIS SON. And this is the record, that God hath given to us ETERNAL LIFE, and THIS LIFE IS IN HIS SON. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (1 John 5:10-12)
What about the unbelieving Jewish people throughout the world? They do not believe that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah), nor the Son of God. In the passage above it tells us that eternal life is in the SON, and those who do not have the SON, do not have life! Not only that, but it declares that those same people who do not believe in the testimony (record) that God gave of His Son, make Him out to be a liar.
John the Baptist was not impressed with the religiosity of the Jewish people of his time. He was well aware of the pride of many, that they were the “children of Abraham” but here he tells them they need to repent!
Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin NOT to say within yourselves, WE HAVE ABRAHAM TO OUR FATHER: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (Luke 3:7-9)
What did Jesus have to say about all of this? Listen to Jesus as He speaks to the Jewish religious leaders of His time:
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. (John 8:24)
Jesus told them that they would die in their sins if they did not believe in Him. The truth of the matter is that they rejected Him for the most part, and that still remains the case today. Listen to this conversation between Jesus and the Jewish religious leaders once again:
I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father. They answered and said unto him, ABRAHAM IS OUR FATHER. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek TO KILL ME, a man that hath told you THE TRUTH, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. Jesus said unto them, IF GOD WERE YOUR FATHER, YE WOULD LOVE ME: for I proceeded forth and CAME FROM GOD; neither came I of myself, but HE SENT ME. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. YE ARE OF YOUR FATHER THE DEVIL, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is NO TRUTH IN HIM. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:38-44)
Friends, listen to the language that came out of the mouth of Jesus here. He referred to those who opposed Him as children of the devil! This was not the ranting of a “wild eyed” fanatic, but the words of the creator of all things (John 1:1-3) the compassionate, and merciful one who emptied his veins on the cross for our sins. (Romans 5:6-10) Jesus was simply dealing with the children of Israel who were very proud that they were “children of Abraham” but the Lord showed them otherwise and told them that they did not follow in his steps. If they were truly children of FAITH, then they would not have missed Jesus as being the Christ (Messiah) when He came! Was Jesus a hate monger? Was Jesus anti-semitic? No, He simply preached the truth, in fact He declared that He WAS the truth.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)
Jesus also told us that the Holy Spirit (Spirit of truth) would testify of HIM and glorify HIM!
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the SPIRIT OF TRUTH, which proceedeth from the Father, HE SHALL TESTIFY OF ME: (John 15:26)
Howbeit when he, the SPIRIT OF TRUTH, is come, he will guide you into ALL TRUTH: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. HE SHALL GLORIFY ME: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. (John 16:13-14)
How does God speak to us in these last days? It is through the Son! If a person does NOT want the Son, then THAT PERSON, most certainly IS, on the broad way, that leads to destruction. Jesus warned us about that road in the passage below..
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and BROAD is the way, that leadeth to DESTRUCTION, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in SHEEP’S CLOTHING, but INWARDLY they are ravening WOLVES. (Matthew 7:12-15)
